Tall Tree

Mike and I had the best time going up to the Redwoods on Friday. The drive was so pretty, and we had such a great time taking a much needed road trip. I found a beautiful hotel to stay at online, called the Benbow Hotel, and that was my most favorite part of the trip by far. It's this historic hotel that was built in the late 1800's in which many famous presidents and movie starts used to stay. The lobby is filled with fireplaces, old checker boards, beautiful antique couches, and outside it sits on a river with lots and lots of grass (I know we were up in the Weed capital of America, so no pun intended). I felt like I was in England. We spent the day finding all the trees worth seeing including one that fell in 1991 and dated back to when Christ was born. The Redwoods are called everlasting trees because they are totally fire proof and insects don't like them. They only fall due to heavy rain, but it's all a part of the echo system. It's unreal, and makes me so aware of God's creation. Mike and I had a great dinner at the Benbow Hotel which cost more than our room rate--yikes! But, so worth it. We spent the rest of the night playing checkers and reading books. In the morning, we woke up early, drank some coffee, and read the paper. It was a perfect getaway! And, as my mom says, "Deposits in our relationship."
